Microsoft plans to make its AI assistant, Copilot, available to 1 billion Windows 10 users, as reported by Windows Central. Many users still rely on Windows 10 and are unable to access Copilot.

With an update, Copilot’s reach would expand fivefold, from 400 million Windows 11 devices to a total of 1.4 billion devices across both operating systems. Insiders suggest that the Windows 10 update, which introduces the Copilot button to the taskbar, is imminent.

However, this move could diminish the incentive to migrate users to Windows 11, where the assistant is already integrated.

Windows Copilot analyzes the contents of the screen, offering context-specific suggestions and actions tailored to what users are currently viewing. Copilot can be accessed via the taskbar and positioned on the right or left side of the screen. It includes a chat field for entering commands and questions.

Is Windows 10 receiving extended support after all?

There are also indications that Microsoft might extend the lifecycle of Windows 10 beyond the current end date in 2025, according to Windows Central. While there are internal discussions on this matter, no decision has been reached yet.

If Windows 10 were to persist, the Copilot integration could be just the first of several backports of features originally reserved for the new operating system.
