Microsoft has introduced a unique offering for tech enthusiasts—a sweater featuring the iconic green hill that adorned the computer screens of users for over a decade.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has ventured into quirky merchandise. Previously, they’ve offered Minesweeper motifs, MS Paint designs, the Windows logo, and even the unforgettable Clippy as what they playfully call “ugly sweaters.”
Remember Windows XP? That operating system had a default wallpaper showcasing a picturesque green landscape known as Bliss Hill, an actual place in California. Microsoft secured exclusive rights to the photo back in 2000, taken in January 1996.
Now, Microsoft’s latest ‘ugly sweater’ for this year proudly displays the beloved Bliss landscape in a knitted design. The sweater portrays the rolling green hills, with a sizable cursor overlaying a portion of the scene—a clear nostalgic nod for anyone who spent time on Windows XP.
To add an extra touch, the sleeves and bottom edge of the sweater sport the signature bright blue shade reminiscent of Windows XP’s familiar taskbar.
Available in sizes ranging from S to 3XL, these sweaters come at a flat price of $70. For those eager to sport a piece of tech history, deliveries within the US are expected between December 2nd and 6th, 2023.
But it’s not just about fashion nostalgia. Microsoft has pledged that the proceeds from the Windows XP sweater sales will contribute to The Nature Conservancy’s initiatives, supporting efforts to combat climate change and preserve biodiversity.
