Opel Unveils Movano Electric: High Performance, Advanced Tech, and Future Innovations Await

Opel’s new Movano Electric comes equipped with a 200 kW powerful electric motor generating 400 Nm of torque. According to the manufacturer, the 110 kWh battery enables a range of up to 420 km (WLTP).

Opel announced that with its 150 kW fast-charging feature, the battery can be charged up to 80 percent in just 55 minutes. The Movano Electric comes standard with a three-phase 11 kW onboard charger for AC charging. Drivers can set four different regenerative braking levels using paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The cockpit has undergone a complete overhaul. It features a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an optional 10-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration via Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and an inductive charging station. A traditional key is unnecessary as the Movano can be unlocked and started remotely.

An integrated 230-volt socket on the dashboard allows charging laptops, power tool batteries, tablets, and other low-power devices requiring up to 150 watts.

Despite being electric, the Movano offers a cargo volume of up to 17 cubic meters and carries payloads of up to 1.5 tonnes. The underfloor battery preserves the diversity of models, ranging from panel vans to flatbeds and chassis cabs.

Driving up to 30 km/h without driver assistance

A total of 22 assistance systems, including traffic sign recognition, blind-spot warning, and a 360° camera, aid drivers. A highlight is the Level 2 semi-automated driving: Up to 30 km/h, the Movano autonomously steers, brakes, and accelerates using radar sensors, cameras, and software, facilitating autonomous driving in traffic jams. However, drivers must remain ready to intervene at all times.

In 2024, Opel plans to introduce the Movano H2 with a hydrogen fuel cell drive. The emission-free vehicle, as per the manufacturer, boasts a range of 400 km and can be refueled in 5 minutes owing to its 700-bar hydrogen tanks. Opel hasn’t disclosed pricing details yet.
