Tchibo Mobil has announced an upgrade to its Smart plans with a duration of four weeks. Starting November 13, 2023, the plans will switch from the previous 4G network to 5G, offering improved coverage in larger crowds and rural areas.

Additionally, most plans now include more data volume. With the exception of one case, the prices remain the same as before, meaning the enhancements come at no extra cost. The Smart S plan continues to cost 8.99 euros, providing the same 2 gigabytes of data as before. The Smart M plan, priced at 10.99 euros, now offers 6 gigabytes of data, up from the previous 5 gigabytes.

The Smart L plan maintains its price at 16.99 euros but now comes with 12 gigabytes of data instead of the previous 10 gigabytes. The largest plan, Smart XL, is the only one with a price increase, now at 21.99 euros instead of 20.99. However, it includes not only 5G but also a data volume increase of 5 gigabytes, totaling 20 gigabytes.

No significant increase in data transfer rates

Even the Kids plan, with 2 gigabytes of data, is transitioning to 5G while keeping its price at 6.99 euros. All plans in the 5G network have a maximum download rate of 50 Mbps and a maximum upload rate of 25 Mbps—meaning there are no speed advantages with 5G. Instead, the focus is on improving network coverage.

Existing customers can stick with their current 4G plans, as there is no automatic conversion. They have the option to switch to one of the new plans at any time for free. For those without a 5G-compatible smartphone, three out of the four Smart plans still offer the benefit of increased data volume.
