Apple Creator Studio costs $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US, and $17.99 CAD a month or $179 CAD a year in Canada. Students and teachers in the US pay $2.99 a month. Up to six family members can share one plan, and a new Mac or eligible iPad comes with three months free.

A free update in November adds MotionVFX effects to Final Cut Pro, Generate Fill in Pixelmator Pro, drum separation in Logic Pro, and AI assistants built on Apple models and OpenAI. The assistants are in beta and US English only.

  • Final Cut Pro is still sold once for $299.99.
  • Logic Pro is $199.99 as a one-time buy.
  • Buying once wins if you only need one app.

The Apple Creator Studio price is $12.99 a month or $129 a year in the US, and that doesn’t change with the big update Apple announced on October 27. New subscribers get a one-month free trial, and the update itself lands free for current subscribers on the App Store in November.

So is the bundle worth paying for every month, when Apple still sells Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for a one-time fee? That depends on which apps you actually open and whether the new AI tools matter to you. Here’s every price, what the November update adds, and a quick way to work out which option costs you less.

01

Apple Creator Studio price in the US and Canada

Apple Creator Studio costs $12.99 per month or $129 per year in the US, with a one-month free trial for new subscribers. In Canada, it’s $17.99 CAD per month or $179 CAD per year, unchanged since Apple first set Canadian pricing in January.

  • US standard: $12.99 a month or $129 a year.
  • US students and teachers: $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, after verification.
  • Canada standard: $17.99 CAD a month or $179 CAD a year.
  • Canada post-secondary students and educators: $3.99 CAD a month or $39 CAD a year.
  • Free months: buy a new Mac or eligible iPad from Apple or an authorized reseller and you get three months free.
  • Family Sharing: up to six people can share one subscription at no extra cost.

Apple sells the bundle only through the App Store, and one subscription covers your Mac, iPad and iPhone.

What you get for the money

Creator Studio bundles six pro apps: Final Cut Pro for video, Logic Pro for music, Pixelmator Pro for images, Motion for animated graphics, Compressor for exporting video, and MainStage for live music performance. It also unlocks premium features in Keynote, Pages and Numbers, plus Apple’s Content Hub of stock photos and video.

The free versions of Keynote, Pages, Numbers and Freeform stay free. The subscription only adds the extras on top.

What the November update adds

Apple calls this the most exciting update since Creator Studio launched in January. The headline is MotionVFX, a third-party maker of effects and templates for video editors, now built straight into Final Cut Pro for Mac.

  • Final Cut Pro: thousands of MotionVFX templates, titles, transitions and graphics, plus tools for rotoscoping (cutting objects out frame by frame), tracking and color grading. You also get Content Hub stock video, one-click round trips to Pixelmator Pro for image edits, text-to-image generation and 23 new transcription languages for captions.
  • Pixelmator Pro: Generate Fill. Circle part of a photo, type the change you want, and the app fills it in to match the lighting and texture around it.
  • Logic Pro: a Liquid Glass redesign, a new Browser that gathers loops, instruments and a Splice library in one place, and a Stem Splitter that can now pull out the drums.
  • Keynote, Pages and Numbers: AI assistants that understand what’s in your document, new premium themes and templates, and stock video.
  • Motion and Compressor: MotionVFX plug-ins in Motion, and Compressor support for Cinematic mode video from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

The AI assistants come with fine print

The new assistants in Logic Pro, Keynote, Pages and Numbers run on a mix of Apple’s own models and OpenAI’s. That’s a notable change for Apple, which usually leans on its own AI for features like these. In Logic, one typed request can get a vocal track ready or kick off a new song idea. In Numbers, it can suggest chart types and build tables.

Before you subscribe for the AI alone, check these limits:

  • All the assistants are in beta.
  • They work in US English only for now, which matters for buyers in Canada and the UK.
  • The Logic Pro assistant is Mac-only and needs macOS 27 on a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence.
  • The Keynote, Pages and Numbers assistants need an Apple Intelligence-capable device on iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27.
  • Support for MCP, a standard that lets outside AI agents read and edit your documents, is Mac-only on macOS 27.

Subscribe or buy once: which is cheaper for you?

If you only need one app, buying it once usually wins. Apple still sells the Mac versions outright, and they get the November features too.

  • Final Cut Pro: $299.99 in the US, $399.99 CAD in Canada.
  • Logic Pro: $199.99 in the US, $249.99 CAD in Canada.
  • Pixelmator Pro, Motion and Compressor: $49.99 each in the US, $69.99 CAD each in Canada.
  • MainStage: $29.99 in the US, $39.99 CAD in Canada.

Here’s the math in plain terms. Final Cut Pro bought once costs a bit more than two years of the annual plan, and Logic Pro costs about a year and a half. If you plan to use one of them for longer than that, buying outright saves money.

The subscription makes more sense in four cases:

  1. You use two or more of the apps, especially Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro together.
  2. You’re a student or teacher. At $29.99 a year, the education plan costs far less than any single app.
  3. You want to share with family. One plan covers up to six people.
  4. You want the iPad and iPhone versions and the premium Keynote, Pages and Numbers features, which the one-time Mac apps don’t include.
06

What this means if you make videos, music or slides

For video creators, MotionVFX is the real prize. Effects and template packs like these are usually sold separately, so having them built in can save money on add-ons. For musicians, the drum separation and new Browser are practical wins, while the Logic assistant is more of a helper for beginners.

If you mainly make slide decks and documents, wait until the assistants leave beta and reach more languages. And if you’re about to buy a new Mac, remember the three free months. If you can, line them up with the November update so you get to test the new tools before paying anything.
