Meta is selling a camera-free version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, called Ray-Ban Audio. The two styles available are Clubmaster and Burbank, and they’re lighter than earlier camera-equipped models. Frame-only pricing runs from $349 to $429 depending on lens choices such as transitions. The emphasis this time is on open-ear listening and a hands-free AI helper rather than shooting video or photos.

In practice, you get music, calls, and AI help through a built-in touchpad on the right arm and a top button to wake Meta AI. The design trims privacy concerns by removing any camera and by offering clearer options to opt out of data used to improve AI. Battery life is advertised as up to 12 hours for general use, with around six hours of continuous audio playback in typical scenarios.

What these glasses are exactly

The Ray-Ban Audio glasses are meant to be lightweight, camera-free eyewear that doubles as open-ear headphones. They keep Ray-Ban styling and replace cameras with audio hardware. Users control playback by tapping the right temple or swiping, and the top button can trigger Meta AI for quick tasks. There’s no built-in camera for photos or video, which Meta frames as a privacy-friendly choice.

Privacy controls you’ll actually use

Meta highlights privacy options, including disclosures about how AI data is handled and an option to stop data from being used to improve AI. Voice data may still be used, and you can switch off the wake word to prevent accidental activations. If you just want audio assistance without AI prompts, there’s a simple button-based mode to keep the device quiet until you need help.

What it can do today versus later

Current glasses come with Meta’s Muse Spark AI, which can handle calendar lookups, reminders, translations, and basic directions. It isn’t the full agentic AI that Meta plans to roll out later, so more complex tasks will still be easier on your phone. Reviewers report solid audio quality for an open-ear design, with some leakage at higher volumes and not quite the same bass as traditional headphones.

Impact on everyday life

For people who want a discreet pair of glasses that function like lightweight open-ear headphones with a smart assistant, these fit the bill. They’re comfortable for long wear and simple AI tasks, with a privacy-first approach thanks to the camera-free design. If you’re hoping for camera-based features or a more capable AI, you’ll want to wait for future updates when the more advanced Muse AI arrives.

What happens next

Meta hasn’t given a precise timeline for broader AI features on these glasses, but Muse AI integration is expected to expand later this year. If you’re considering buying, weigh whether you want a privacy-oriented glass with basic AI help or you’d rather wait for more capable, camera-equipped models.
