The only reason given is polish. In its message, the studio thanked fans for the excitement since the June reveal, said it does not take their trust for granted, and promised to use every remaining month to get the game to its “fullest potential.”
What the statement leaves out matters just as much. It names no technical problem, no feature being cut and no change to the story or the platform. It also says the team will share more updates soon, so the studio is not going quiet. As far as anyone outside the studio can tell, this is a schedule change rather than a rethink.
That fits what players have already seen. Earlier this year Sony put out a 23-minute gameplay reveal, which is not something a studio tends to do with a game that is far from finished. The extra months look more like breathing room than a rescue.
The reaction to that reveal was mixed, for what it’s worth. Plenty of fans praised the new direction, while others argued online about the character design and about a series that has always been led by Kratos handing the spotlight to someone else. A delay will not settle that debate, but it does give the studio more time to show the finished game.
