Beats has launched a Pokemon edition of its Pill speaker, with Pikachu and Mimikyu printed on the grille and chrome lightning bolts around Pikachu. It went on sale October 15 for $149.99, the same as a normal Beats Pill at Apple.

  • Sold only in the US (Apple, Target), the UK (Apple, Argos) and China. Not in Canada.
  • Comes with a double-sided strap charm: Beats logo and a Poke Ball.
  • Same hardware as the 2024 Pill: up to 24 hours of battery, IP67 water resistance, lossless audio over USB-C, and it can charge your phone.
  • Fans expect it to sell out fast, so buy early if you want one.

The Pokemon Beats Pill is the most fan-pleasing speaker Beats has made in years, and it costs exactly the same as the plain one. The special edition, with Pikachu and Mimikyu printed across the front, went on sale on October 15 for $149.99.

That price is the twist. Collector editions usually carry a premium, but Beats is charging Apple’s normal Pill price for this one. The catch is that you can only buy it in three countries and a handful of stores, which is why people are rushing to search for it.

Where you can buy the Pokemon Beats Pill

Beats is keeping this one tight. It’s sold only in the United States, the United Kingdom and China.

  • US: Apple’s online store and Target, both online and in select stores.
  • UK: Apple’s online store and Argos, online and in select stores.
  • China: Apple’s store and the Douyin shopping app.

Canada isn’t on the list, so Canadian fans will need to wait and see whether Beats widens the release. Sales opened at 11am Eastern on launch day, and fans already expect it to sell out quickly, partly because many buyers plan to keep theirs sealed in the box as a collectible.

Why Mimikyu and not just Pikachu

The design is a split personality. One side of the grille shows Mimikyu in grayscale, the shy Pokemon that dresses up as Pikachu. The other side shows the real Pikachu in full yellow with its red cheeks. Small chrome lightning bolts stick out around Pikachu, so the front has texture you can feel, not just a print.

The speaker body itself stays gray. Beats also adds a rubber charm to the carry strap, with the Beats logo on one side and a Poke Ball on the other. Even the box is themed, with Pokemon ears poking up over the top. The speaker is part of the long list of products marking Pokemon’s 30th anniversary.

Beats’ marketing chief Chris Thorne said the company wanted to make “something fun, unexpected, and created especially for fans.”

Is it any better than a normal Beats Pill?

No, and that’s not a bad thing. Under the artwork, this is the same Beats Pill that came out in 2024. You get:

  • A racetrack-shaped woofer, the part that makes bass, plus a separate tweeter for vocals.
  • Up to 24 hours of playback, and about two hours of music from a 10-minute charge.
  • IP67 protection, which means it can handle dust and a dunk in water.
  • Lossless audio when you plug it into your phone or laptop with a USB-C cable.
  • A USB-C port that can top up your phone, so it doubles as a small power bank.
  • Quick pairing with both iPhone and Android phones.

It plays in mono on its own. If you own two Pills, you can link them for louder sound or for proper left and right stereo.

04

What this means if you’re thinking of buying one

If you were already shopping for a portable speaker and you like Pokemon, this is an easy choice: you pay nothing extra for the design. If you just want the speaker, though, you can do better on price. Other Beats Pill colors are often discounted at stores like Target, so a plain one can cost noticeably less than $149.99.

Collectors should move fast. A limited three-country release, a 30th-anniversary theme and a normal price is the classic recipe for empty shelves and marked-up resale listings.
