iPhone Duo return policy: Nov. 6 cutoff, and who gets more time

Launch-day buyers in the US hit Apple's 14-day limit on Friday, but Canadians, UK online buyers and late deliveries all get extra breathing room.

The short version

  • Apple gives US buyers 14 calendar days from delivery to return an iPhone Duo, so launch-day owners must act by Friday, November 6.
  • Canadian buyers get 15 days, which pushes the launch-day deadline in Canada to Saturday, November 7.
  • UK online buyers only need to tell Apple within 14 days, then get a further 14 days to send the phone back.
  • Phones bought from carriers or other stores follow that seller's rules, and returning the phone may not cancel your phone plan.
Quick read · 1 min

If your iPhone Duo arrived on launch day, October 23, and you bought it from Apple in the US, Friday, November 6 is your last day to send it back. Apple's window is 14 calendar days from delivery, so later deliveries get later deadlines.

Canada allows 15 days, which moves the launch-day cutoff there to Saturday, November 7. UK buyers who ordered online only have to tell Apple within 14 days, then get two more weeks to ship it. Carrier and third-party purchases follow the seller's own policy.

  • Turn off Find My and back up the phone first.
  • Return it with the box and every accessory.
  • Call your carrier, since a return may not end your plan.

Card refunds land within five business days once Apple has the phone.

The iPhone Duo return policy gives most buyers in the US just 14 calendar days, and for anyone whose phone arrived on launch day, that clock runs out on Friday, November 6. Miss it, and Apple’s first foldable, which starts at $1,999, is yours for good.

The short version: Apple counts the days from when you received the phone, not from when you ordered it. US buyers get 14 days, Canadian buyers get 15, and people in the UK who ordered online can flag a return within 14 days and then take up to two more weeks to ship it. If you bought through a carrier or another store, Apple’s dates don’t apply at all. Here’s how each rule works, how to send the phone back, and what to weigh before you do.

When the iPhone Duo return window closes

The iPhone Duo went on sale on Friday, October 23. For a US buyer who got it that day, Apple’s standard 14-day limit ends on Friday, November 6. That applies whether you bought it on Apple’s website, in the Apple Store app or at an Apple Store.

Pre-orders opened on October 16, but that date doesn’t matter. Apple’s own policy ties the window to the day the product reached you. If your Duo turned up a few days after launch, add 14 days to your own delivery date, which you can find in your order details or shipping tracking.

The phone also launched in 28 more countries and regions on October 30. Where a 14-day window applies, a phone delivered that day can go back until November 13, but rules differ by country, so check Apple’s local returns page.

  • US: 14 calendar days from delivery. Launch-day deadline: November 6.
  • Canada: 15 calendar days from delivery. Launch-day deadline: Saturday, November 7.
  • UK online orders: 14 days to tell Apple, then a further 14 days to return the phone.
  • Second-wave countries: a phone delivered on October 30 runs out on November 13 where a 14-day rule applies.

Why UK and Canadian buyers get extra time

Canada’s version of Apple’s policy simply allows one more day. Apple’s Canadian terms set a 15-day limit from delivery, so a launch-day phone there can still go back on Saturday, November 7.

The UK rule is different in kind, not just length. Under Apple’s UK terms, online shoppers have 14 days from taking possession to send Apple a clear message that they want to return the phone. That can be done online through your account, by phone or by email. Once that notice is in, you get another 14 days to send the product back or book a collection.

In practice, a UK buyer who received a Duo on October 23 and tells Apple on November 6 could have until November 20 to actually dispatch it. That extra time also covers online orders picked up in a store. It doesn’t help people who bought the phone outright at a physical Apple Store counter, who generally need to return it inside the first 14 days. The same notify-then-return setup exists across the European Union.

The UK terms add two details US shoppers don’t see. Apple may reduce your refund if the phone comes back damaged, and it won’t refund the extra cost of express delivery if you chose it over standard shipping.

How to return an iPhone Duo to Apple

The process is simple, but a couple of steps are easy to forget, and one of them can cost you money after the phone is gone.

  1. Back up the phone so your photos, messages and settings are safe before you hand it over.
  2. Turn off Find My on the Duo. Do it before you hand the phone over.
  3. Pack everything that came with it. Apple’s US terms require the phone in its original condition, with all of its parts, accessories and packaging, plus a receipt.
  4. Start the return from Apple’s online Order Status page, or, in the US, walk into any Apple Store.
  5. Talk to your carrier. Returning the phone may not cancel or reset a wireless account you opened with it, and Apple says any fees tied to that plan are your responsibility.

Once the phone is back in Apple’s hands, a card refund should reach your bank within five business days. Gift card purchases are refunded the same way they were paid, as an emailed Apple Gift Card.

One more thing to know if you return in person: Apple has begun putting machines in its stores that check a returned iPhone while it’s still sealed in the box. The machine wakes the phone wirelessly and runs diagnostics, so a box that’s been quietly emptied or swapped is far easier to catch. Apple hasn’t announced the system or said which stores have it.

Bought from a carrier? Different rules apply

Everything above covers phones bought directly from Apple. If your Duo came from a wireless carrier or another retailer, that seller’s return policy decides your deadline, any fees and how the refund works. Check your receipt or the seller’s site rather than counting on Apple’s dates.

Should you keep it or send it back?

Two issues have pushed some owners toward the fence. First, reports from owners in at least five countries describe inner screens cracking along the hinge, sometimes within hours of unboxing. Apple hasn’t said how many phones are affected. Outside warranty, a new inner display costs $999, while AppleCare+ cuts that fee to $99.

Second, the Duo has no Display Zoom option in Settings once setup is done, on iOS 27.2. You choose text and icon size during setup, and the choice then disappears from Settings. One forum member says Apple Support told them the only fix is to erase the phone and set it up again, but that is a secondhand account and Apple hasn’t responded publicly.

If you keep the phone, the US price of AppleCare+ covering theft and loss on a Duo is $399 up front, $199.99 a year or $19.99 a month. Apple lets you add an AppleCare plan within 60 days of buying an iPhone, so you don’t have to decide on that by Friday.

Also watch prices. Apple’s US policy offers a refund of the difference if it cuts the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of delivery, but this excludes limited-time sales events such as Black Friday.
