The OnePlus 16 crams a 9,000mAh battery into an 8.5mm body, but OnePlus has stopped launching phones in North America and Europe, so most Western buyers face importing.

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 16 in China on October 12, 2026. It packs a 9,000mAh battery into a phone about 8.5mm thick, along with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a 200MP main camera and a 6.78-inch screen that reaches 185Hz in supported games.

It starts at 5,999 yuan, about $896, with an introductory price of 5,699 yuan. But OnePlus has stopped launching new phones in North America and Europe, so there's no official way to buy it in the US, Canada or the UK.

  • Importing means no local warranty and Chinese ColorOS 17 software.
  • Global and Indian software is reportedly in testing, but nothing is confirmed.
  • A global version may drop the 9,000mAh battery and 185Hz screen.

For now, Western buyers who want an official OnePlus flagship are left with the OnePlus 15.

A 9,000mAh battery in a phone just 8.5mm thick sounds like a typo. It isn’t. That’s the headline spec of the OnePlus 16, which OnePlus launched in China on October 12, 2026, alongside a 200MP camera, a screen that can hit 185Hz in games and a chip that runs past 5GHz.

If you live in the US, the UK or Canada, there’s a catch that matters more than any spec. OnePlus has stopped launching new products in North America and Europe, which made the OnePlus 15 its last flagship there. So the big question about the OnePlus 16 China release isn’t how good it is. It’s whether you can get one at all, and what you give up if you import it.

01

Is the OnePlus 16 coming to the US, UK or Canada?

Not officially, and probably not soon. OnePlus pulled out of North America and Europe earlier this year as part of what it called a regional business adjustment. Its US market share had shrunk to below 1% of smartphone shipments, according to Counterpoint data, meaning fewer than one in every 100 phones shipped there.

There is a sliver of hope for some buyers. Leaker Abhishek Yadav reported that OnePlus is testing global and Indian software for the phone under three model numbers: CPH2901, CPH2903 and CPH2905. OnePlus hasn’t confirmed a launch, and India, by far its biggest market outside China, is the likely first stop. Even if that global model arrives, nothing suggests it will be sold officially in the US, Canada or the UK.

UK buyers should also note a warning from early comparisons: if a global version does appear, some China-only features, like the 9,000mAh battery and the 185Hz panel, may not carry over.

OnePlus 16 price in China

The OnePlus 16 costs 5,999 yuan in China, or about $896, with an introductory price of 5,699 yuan, roughly $852. Those are Chinese market prices, not US retail prices, and they don’t include import fees or shipping. One UK outlet quoted a higher list price of 6,799 yuan, so check the exact model before you buy.

For comparison, the OnePlus 15, which is still sold in the UK, started at £849.

The specs that make the OnePlus 16 stand out

The battery is the star. At 9,000mAh, it’s about 1,700mAh bigger than the OnePlus 15’s 7,300mAh cell, an increase of roughly 23%. An Oppo-made power chip is meant to keep performance steady even when the battery is nearly empty. Charging tops out at 100W with a cable and 50W wirelessly, and OnePlus says you can reach 80% in 37 minutes. In one Chinese lab test, the phone went from 1% to 30% in 10 minutes and filled up completely in 54 minutes.

There’s also a gaming trick called bypass charging. When you play while plugged in, power goes straight to the phone rather than constantly topping up the battery. You can also charge other gadgets from it at 27W through the cable.

Here’s how the rest of the hardware stacks up:

  • Chip: Qualcomm’s new 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, which can reach 5.01GHz. Qualcomm promises a 15% jump in CPU performance.
  • Screen: a flat 6.78-inch OLED made by BOE that runs at 165Hz day to day and up to 185Hz in supported games.
  • Cameras: a 200MP main sensor with optical stabilization, plus a 50MP ultrawide, a 50MP 3x telephoto and a 50MP selfie camera.
  • Memory: up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage with as much as 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM.
  • Toughness: IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust, water and high-pressure jets.

OnePlus says the 200MP main sensor is the same one used in the Oppo Find X9 Ultra. The phone comes in Dark Forest, Mars Masterpiece and a Tomorrow’s Starlight finish that hides an array of LEDs under the rear glass, so the back can light up and pulse.

The trade-offs nobody puts on the spec sheet

The OnePlus 16 isn’t an upgrade on every line. Wired charging drops to 100W from the Chinese OnePlus 15’s 120W. The telephoto camera has a bigger sensor but falls back from 3.5x to 3x zoom. The design is also largely unchanged from last year.

Software is the bigger issue for Western buyers. The Chinese OnePlus 16 ships with ColorOS 17, while the global OnePlus 15 runs OxygenOS 16. That matters for updates as well as daily use, because long-term software support on an imported Chinese model is far less certain.

Early tests do back up the gaming claims. One review unit held almost exactly 185 frames per second over 30 minutes in two Chinese shooter games, though those were Chinese versions of the games, so the same results aren’t guaranteed in titles like Call of Duty: Mobile.

05

What this means if you want one

For most people in the US, the UK and Canada, the OnePlus 16 is a phone to admire rather than buy. Importing one means no local warranty or official support, possible carrier compatibility problems, and software that isn’t designed for Western users.

If you’re a gamer or a battery obsessive who’s comfortable with all that, it offers more raw hardware than most phones near its price. But once you add import costs, it no longer undercuts mainstream flagships by much. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is listed near $900 in the US and comes with official service and seven generations of Android upgrades.

If you already own a OnePlus 15, there’s little reason to rush. It’s still sold and supported officially, and software updates have fixed its early overheating problems. For everyone else, the next thing to watch is whether OnePlus confirms the global model reported in testing, and which features it keeps.
