Arjun is the game’s second Indian fighter after Dhalsim, but the two could hardly be more different. Dhalsim is a calm yoga master who stretches his limbs and breathes fire. Arjun uses yoga breathing to inflate his chest and fire blasts of air, and he plays like a heavy, aggressive bruiser who trades speed for raw power.
His story is a revenge thriller. He served on the police force in India until his trusted partner was killed and he was set up to take the blame. Now he is on the run, trying to find out who was really responsible.
The standout mechanic is recoverable damage, the gray chunk of health that can come back if you avoid more hits. Several of Arjun’s moves deal it even when the opponent blocks, which makes him scary to sit still against. A few highlights:
- Breathing Ring creates a ring of air he can launch forward with Breathing Shockwave, at different angles.
- Divine Pillar blows air into the floor to raise a column of earth, and holding the button delays when it pops up.
- Justice Beyond lets him grab an active pillar with his shoulder charge and swing it at the opponent.
- Indomitable Defense fills his muscles with oxygen so incoming punches and kicks get turned into counterattacks.
- Ghastly Interrogation is a command grab that only deals recoverable damage, unless the opponent is already carrying some.
His three Super Arts follow the same theme. Howling Destruction (Level 1) is a fast burst of breath attacks. Instant Oblivion (Level 2) sends opponents flying across the screen so he can set up a pillar. Yaksha’s Order (Level 3) scrambles the opponent’s inner ear balance before a big cinematic finish.
